Just like how glass is made of sand that has been heated, Biochar is carbon that has been structured by heat into a coherent form. Biochar has a charge that cleans water, attracts healthy microbes and repels harmful electromagnetic frequencies.
Rich black soil starts with stable carbon. My farm exploded into life the moment I addressed the lack of carbon in my soil with biochar. Plants and trees that were weak and unhealthy became vigorous and resilient. BioChar gave me the confidence to be my name sake, Gardner.
Mixing biochar with your earth(potting soil) supercharges the soil biome because it’s an ideal medium for drainage, cation exchange and mycelium growth.
Not to be confused with charcoal, our Biochar is made from 100% pure wood biomass and is much more effective than charcoal in your soil. The Foundation of BioChar
Raw Materials sourcing is critical in making real BioChar. We collect dry wood shavings from Amish lumber mills which process Oak, Hickory and Maple Trees for our agricultural bag mix. Organic Coffee Grinds are collected from local Baristas for our Cosmetic BioChar line. Dry biomass ensures complete pyrolization for the best BioChar.
Removing Excess Moisture
Good Biochar starts with dry BioMass because it allows for a perfect heat curve. Our Amish Lumber Mills process cured wood where the by-products are stored under roof and we have mechanical dryers to remove the last bits of moisture. Dried biomass get’s super hot in our Kilns which results in the highest proportion of Real BioChar.
Most processing of Charcoal uses pit burning where wettish wood is set on fire in an open air environment. The moisture of the biomass and ambient air lead to a low temperature smolder burn which yields only 5-15% BioChar. Our process yields 95%+
Heating in low-oxygen conditions
Transforming BioMass into BioChar
Pyrolysis is at the heart of the BioChar making process. Dried BioMass is heated at high temperatures (1200-1400*F) in a low oxygen environment. Instead of burning to ash, the material undergoes a chemical transformation as the volatiles leave resulting in stable, fixed carbon.
This process makes the carbon ‘diamagnetic’ which is biologically miraculous as it acts like an organic superconductor. Imagine a microbiome of alchemists creating the essentials for your plants, that’s Black Gold!
Stopping the heat Stress
Once all the gasses and volatiles have been released from the BioMass we ‘quench’ the material by reducing the heat rapidly to stop the reaction. It’s the rapid heating and cooling of our organic material that releases the magic of carbon.
This process is known as ‘Fixing’ which makes the BioChar much more stable than charcoal and keeps the diamagnetic charge. Diamagnetism shields living organisms from artificial EMF and promotes optimal growth.
The Spine of your Soil
Our BioChar is crushed into an optimal size for soil mixing. Combining the BioChar with a compost tea or a dilution of Effective Microorganisms(EM) and left to cure for one month will catalyze the activated carbon into a super fertilizer.
